Tumbbad

Tumbbad, a film released in Bollywood theater in 2018, notices in itself rather an empirical concerto of mythology-horror instead of drama. Written and directed by Rahi Anil Barve and Mitesh Shah, Prasad Barve and Anand Gandhi, the movie examines philosophies such like greed, fear and human understanding using a mythological concept.

Plot

The major premise of Tumbbad is a very compelling and ancient story concerning a goddess who is believed to have created the world and gives birth to quite a few goddesses, but her firstborn would later become the greedy god who will be consumed by greed, named Hastar.

The movie tells the story of Vinayak Rao, a man who is consumed with the desire for everlasting wealth.

Tumbbad is also famous for being a visual film. Tumbbad has employed Pankaj Kumar’s cinematography, whose effective film projection evokes solemn and strange emotions in the village.

The connotation and intonation of light and dark is effectively used in enhancing fear and excitement.

The film’s ominous feeling is convincingly rendered by the sound effects and by the music composed by Jesper Kyd. The soundtrack is full of skittish sounds and glass shattering tunes and builds up and keeps full of stressing and expectant feelings all through the film.

The background music and other sound elements inside the film, correlate with the story line of the film, hence covering the audience’s sight and enhancing the narration.

Cast Details

Sohum Shah stands out as Vinayak Rao and does so even more by going overboard portraying a man whose howling madness is eroded by sheer avarice. Sasikumar is also effective in his role as he evokes both sympathy and repulsion from the audiences.

The secondary characters including Harish Khannaa and Anita Date also did nice jobs that enriched the plot. They convincingly portray individuals who are entrapped in a culture of greed and what it eventually does to them.

Tumbbad Int was released on October 12, 2018 and is pretentious box office success without much surprise. The film was highly appreciated for its originality, narrative, and visual aspects with reasonable love and criticism from both masses and critics.

Its unorthodox mix of mythology and horror was further acknowledged as a healthy deviation in Bollywood Crime. After the movie was released in theaters, Tumbbad was released on more streaming services such as prime video andjiocinema where it developed a cult following.

Re-Release of Tumbbad

The said film will also be treated to a re-release on the 13th of September 2024 creating a chance for another generation to watch the spine chilling story on the large screen for the first time.

Review

Tumbbad in one way or another has made history in the Indian film industry as it has put up a benchmark on how mythology related themes should be presented in modern day films.
